Bill Cote studied with Johnny Moses, (Whis.Stem.Men.Knee) for 30 years. Johnny was trained in the traditional way of the Si.Si.Wiss Medicine of the Northwest Coast. Johnny created the Red Cedar Circle to implement the teachings and stories of how the traditional people of this land related to the the earth, plants, animals, and other humans. His elders trained him as a memorizer to share these teachings as their prophecies told them that these teachings need to be shared with all people at this time because of the changes happening in our world now. The prophecies provide us with signs to recognize what is happening in our world (Eg. the changes in weather, plants, and our society). They also emphasize how important it is to be in touch with nature as these changes occur so we can integrate the changes into our life.
In addition to practicing the medicine for 30 years, Bill worked with families as a social worker and counselor.
Bill has also been making traditional native hand drums for the past 20 years. People are encouraged to bring their drums to the workshop as well. Bill will also have drums for sale and if people are interested in having a drum made for them they can contact him before the workshop to discuss the details of the drum they want.
